Chesapeake Conservancy Applauds Passage of Delaware Wetlands Stewardship Act

Dover, DE – Following the General Assembly's passage of the Delaware Wetlands Stewardship Act, Chesapeake Conservancy CEO Susan Shingledecker issued the following statement:

“Chesapeake Conservancy applauds the Delaware General Assembly for passing the Wetlands Stewardship Act, a landmark step toward protecting the state's freshwater wetlands and the many benefits they provide to communities, wildlife and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Healthy wetlands are among our most effective natural defenses against flooding while also filtering pollution, storing carbon and supporting habitat for countless species.
“The Delaware Wetland Screening Tool is a great example of putting better data to work for conservation. Through our work to map and better understand the Chesapeake watershed, we've seen how better data can guide conservation priorities and strengthen coordinated action across the landscape.
“This legislation demonstrates Delaware's commitment to science-based conservation and collaborative policymaking, and we look forward to its successful implementation to ensure these vital landscapes continue to strengthen the resilience of the region for generations to come.”
